Comparing Twitter with Facebook's Creation date

  1. Click the link you see the JSON view of the tweet.
    https://api.twitter.com/1/statuses/show.json?id=153264431017631749&include_entities=true
  2. Then copy all that text,
  3. Then paste it in here
  4. Click validate button
  5. Now lets compare

Facebook API call full creation date is 2012-01-01T00:01:02+0000
Twitter API call creation date is "Sun Jan 01 00:01:02 +0000 2012"

Crazy to see two creation dates that practically match!?
Shows how insanely fast these APIs actually speak to each other.

SOPA : Overbloated Censorship

SOPA aka 'Stop Online Piracy Act' is currently being discussed in the US Congress.  Stop this bill before it could cripple the Internet.

Why stop SOPA?

This bill is being rushed rather than being more carefully thought through.  By sharing a picture or a small clip of copyrighted material without permission, may end you in Jail.

The strategies

In the bill discusses vast amount of strategies to stop 'Online Priacy'.  Two of the nasty ones here:

DNS blocking tactics to repeated offenders, meaning you can stop countries from visiting a website for one.

Cut off funds to infringing websites and this means youtube.com, reddit.com, and most possibly facebook.com.

Internet Crippled
We also use various websites to:
  • Express ourselves, freedom of speech
  • Socialize with people, family and friends
  • organize clubs and get together
  • Share works and new media that we freely share
  • Even see what is happening around the world
By blocking and cutting funds to repeated offender sites, will mean less freedom of speech on the Internet, less sharing, less socializing, less debating, less innovation.

Likely Targets
Such websites as wikipedia, youtube, and reddit, will most likely be some of the tragets.   They have cash, to fight most of the trouble yet the content will be more empty.

Small start up companies will be hurt too, as people share copyrighted material repeatly on new startup services, hit and probably struggle to stay alive as they have smaller budget.

This SOPA bill could cripple the Internet to the extreme.

What can you do?

There are a few ways to get action going.

Have a read of the comments about the bill

Heart & Sole 2 : Web Developer conference 2011

Neat looking name tag I had to wear whilst at 'Heart and... on Twitpic

Kevin Davies and I went to Heart and Sole 2 conference the night and it was a really cool neat gig.  All impressive speakers.  I was also impressed with the name badges (click here for larger view).

What caught my eye :-)

Syd Lawrence: Hacking the web bit by bit
Internet is a huge playground, learn by doing! Play with as many APIs as you can, make shit up and have fun at the same time :)  I forgot how many APIs there truely are.  Even o2 has an api now that you write and send text on.  Marketing isn't 2nd nature to us(designers and developers) so market market meerkat (lol).  Share code (share on git hub) and take in everyone's feedback, even donate to a project that you like :)

Bruce Lawson : How to destroy the web
Code for older devices that remote countries still use basic phones.  Make sure you code for all browsers where possible.  From statistics, he displayed, there is a large majority of people in this world who still use old phones!  Don't break the web by only coding for browsers that work with modern devices.

Seb Lee-Delisle: Beauty in the browser
HTML5 canvas is fun, start coding animation in various fun ways.  He didn't have much time, yet I knew this was going to be fun watch when said, "I will do a bit of live coding".  It was fun seeing how 3D falling snow flakes is made.  He made it soo simple looking and had fun at the same time, I can see he has taught an awful lot.  He even introduced me the a snowflake UTF8 (U+2744) font character.

Bliss.

Occupy* Occupy London

I support Occupy*

My first political lesson was by my dad, he said to me,

"Vote for the party that will do the least damage"

I am struggling to figure out which party to vote for.  I have been trying to follow politics much more heavily to try and figure out which party to vote for.  I use reddit.com to help understand other people's opinion on various issues and they help.  They even forward me to articles to help relate and even link to actual facts.  I learnt politics is just a big mess of confusion and disappointment.  Even though I still struggle sadly, I still keep trying to educate myself for the right choice.

Corruption Cause Chaos
Corrupt government + corrupt corporation = Cause chaos around the world

Banks bailed out for their mistake and people have to fix their mistakes
Government politicans bought by corporations to help pave their future and not for world
Bank execs given bonuses whilst huge cuts and services get given pay freezes
Huge unemployment
Lack of money to encourage and nurture good new education, charities, services, new businesses

Corrupt politics seemed to be meshed very heavily behind closed doors that the public will never see.  Installed throughout the world and it needs uninstalling drastically and re-installed with a better system that support's the people that everyone can look up to and be a part of.

History
This corruption has been happening since the Roman times (Earlier maybe?!) and it is sad to STILL see this still happening and it should just stop.

Since 1800? 'The American Dream' (Part one and two in channel)
Buy the HD version

Reform Government / Politics
Politics, money and government much more transparent so we can make sure we can see who we should keep doing a job.

Besides News of the World, Laim Fox is yet another prime example of the corruption actually happening behind closed door and it needs to stop now.

I have friends in the US and I thinking highly of them, in a recent email conversation with one, I shared my views and their response was, that they will probably vote for 'Micky Mouse' as a joke! Yhey don't know who to vote for either!!!

All the Best Occupy*

Take small steps, nurture and grow.
I hope others will get this.
Oh and....  "Keep it simple" where possible :)

Sport in Mind

I am a trustee to a new charity called 'Sport in Mind', I helped inspire the creation of this charity.  I also helped co created the design and developed the website.

About the Charity
Sport in Mind is an innovative Berkshire based mental health charity that uses sport to promote mental well-being and empower individuals to move their lives forward in a positive direction. At Sport in Mind we use sport as a means to aid recovery, improve self-esteem, encourage social inclusion and challenge the stigma associated with mental illness.

I'm Honoured
I am really honoured to be a part this charity as I have experienced mental health problems in the past.  With help from friends, family, doctor and charities Reading Launch Pad, Reading Resource, and workshops at the NHS I was able to get back on the road, back into work and enjoying life again.

I wish to help back and show others see the how to help themselves in the road recovery also.  Sport in Mind has helped me achieve this at a great scale that I didn't expect.

Vote for Sport in Mind
Apparently we caught Natwest's eye and we have been listed as one of the charities of interest.

If you like what you have seen and for us to help further, please vote for us!

Thank you for your interest :)

Occupy Wallstreet

Whatever people think of me, I keep an eye on politics in various parts of the world, like any other.  I read an awful lot reddit.com particulary in ukpolitics, politics, world, programming, funnies, (Not forgetting front page, funnies, wtf, and videos etc etc).   Think I may read a bit too much of it but it's a good source of streaming news on almost any subject you can think of.

Discovering Occupy Wallstreet
Having seeing regular posts of 'occupy' in the politics section, I couldn't help but read. I kept seeing 'Occupy' this, Occupy that posts and then eventually I clicked them, read them, read the comments.   Then felt shocked and mortified.

Initial Thoughts
I don't like money lobbying companys fathing around in politics for their own personal gain and not for the people too.

I feel this 'Occupy' needs more attenion than any other.  Even Ben and Jerry's Ice Cream company does.

Good luck 'Occupation Wallstreet', think I might buy some ice cream for some reason... hmm 'I'm human I like Ice cream ok!?'

Ubuntu One + Banshee

After much thought and envying a certain someone's iTune collection, I was originally eyeing on Google Music, then felt Google will be a while before they will release the service out to the UK.

Since I use a PC and Ubuntu alot, I decided to bite the bullet on Ubuntu One Music store with Banshee.   This was after reading that 'Ubuntu One' will bring out a Windows client (Which is wise, or they missing a huge market )

First Experience
Very fast at taking my visa card details and instantly buys with no waiting.  Turns out soon you buy the software, it is instantly in your Ubuntu one cloud account.

UbuntuOne cloud files

Update Banshee
I struggled at first trying to figure out how to get it downloading.  I believe, this was due to Ubuntu not showing you much from behind the wall of clouds initial setting up.

I then discovered that there was a new release of Bansheee 2.2 with loads of bug fixes and enhancements so I figured I'd best update :D

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:banshee-team/banshee-daily
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install banshee

Yes.... Update now if you haven't !!!!

Dispite the update, I struggled still for a little bit and I believe this could be still with more hidden setting up processes in the background... Then somehow how, they started downloading fast and furiously.  Well this was my first experience with Ubuntu One store and Banshee.

On a side note....
I seem to enjoy a few of the songs from the album, so it was my first album bought on Ubuntu One Music Store.

[/me whipsers Buy the tracks you like]

Still a hint delay with the downloads when buying yet fast after a couple of refreshes.  Other than that, I like it better than the preinstalled on of 11.04 version.  So upgrade your Banshee's! :)

Updating Sony Xperia X10i phone

I said to myself, I could not flash my phone using Sony's software for up to 10 ten times.  I am voiding my phone warranty and going solo.

I then finally resolved it and didn't need to root and flash manually....

Symptoms
Cannot upgrade Sony Xperia X10 phone
Cannot install SEMC flash driver
Computer freezes during update
PC campanion fails to update
SEUS fails to update

My silly attempts
1 to 5 attempts on an XP then once another
Once with trying to install the SEMC flash driver manually (Must have phone conected, even with it was a pain)
Once with trying with no SIM or SD card
...
Then I said to myself, '*?!k it I think I flash the phone the other way'...
Days worth of researching forum reading.... (Urika!!!!)

Solution
Use Vista or Windows7

Believe Sony should update their minimum requirements for OS.
Since XP series is a slowly dying bread, companies a probably deciding to no longer test on such versions of software.

CPU cooling and fan upgrade

My father treated me to a quad core CPU cooling and fan kit (though I have dual core CPU) for my last birthday, shows he cares and thinks highly of my future.

During the upgrade, my workspace turned into a little clutter, trust me its nice and tidy again, I loath clutter. Just looking at the fan and heatsink in place blew my mind away! Enjoy the slideshow story

32nd birthday card!? Wow

I don't usually blog about every birthday card yet I was blown away by this card today, even has my fave colour blue in it.

My boss at Websushi treated me for my birthday and got me this amazing card!

From Websushi Snaps

Enjoyed a nice lunch at a place of my choice, then after two buffet meals (Chinese and Indian) and 2 Tiger beers, we mellowed back with a nice cappi to wash away any drowsiness from the alcohol :)

Cold Comfort Farm

Last Friday I recently saw 'Cold Comfort Farm' produced by Caversham Park Theatre group.

Surreal and entertaining at the same time. Never thought I'd see such a wierd side to a farm family amusing accents and a side of slapstick comedy to go with.

It made me wanted to look up this 'Cold Comfort Farm' book.

Victoria Melody : Northen Soul

Her stories are entertaining, I kepted chuckling through out the production.

Amazing insight discovering the 'Northen soul', especially the dancing and the enjoying new music. She made me wanted to learn to how to dance. The show gave gave me that feeling of wanting to dance on the stage yet I knew I shouldn't.

Mixing photos, video, music and dancing gave a great performance, cousy feeling and enjoyed it very much.

Progress Theatre : All my Sons - 2011

This is a mini late review of "All my Sons", yet I hope it makes the actors noticed for what they worth. Based on a true story by Arthur Miller. A play should you witness it, you will ever forget. The little comic relief inbetween kept the audience going.

Acting was mindblowingly emotional, a performance I will never forget.

Role / Actor
Joe Keller / Dino Costa
Dr Jim Bayliss / Matt Tully
Frank Lubey / Jim McGuigan
Sue Bayliss / Kelly Hugo
Lydia Lubey / Esther Walters
Chris Keller / Robin March
Kate Keller / Mary Rutterford
Ann Deever / Eleanor Kent
George Deever / Carl Dunnington

Directed by Harry Gray (He even constructed a small scale model of the stage)

5th May 2011- Exit Poll Results

Mind blowing

hopefully for the better. Two facts that came out about why the 'NO' won

1 Read this comment from the BBC website 22:00

To cap a bad day for Nick Clegg, the public has rejected his party's dream of voting system change.

2 I was deluded through the media videos published online. After reading this post, I now realise why NO won.

There are lots of cat candidates and what most videos don't tell you, there are lots dog candidates too.

Kinda made this one up as I wrote this post
I had a close friend who's partner is a more poltic savy, and said 'No'
I feel variety is good,
I feel a little sheepish,
I feel a little older and wiser,
I feel like a clegg,
Curious about the SNP now...

Lesson learned?
Gather more facts about the bill and who published it.
Don't be easily fooled with video posts about the event.

Debranding and Unlocking Orange San Francisco

My advice
Beginners in unlocking and debranding the ZTE Blade Andriod phone will
find this site more educational first.

Once you more familiar with flashing the Andriod phone, you probably may feel more confident knowing the process and to re-flash as much as you like or have a go at installing cyanogenMod (Stable Aftermarket firmware Andriod 2.3 rom).

And if you don't like the looks you can always go back to the original stock roms.

My experience
The ZTE Blade (Aka Orange San Francisco) is probably the most affordable Android on the market at the time of release, I have helped a friend and my dad get this phone.

Why unlock and de-brand?
No disrespect to Orange, for some people their packages could be beneficial. Yet for these two unlocks I knew they didn't want to use Orange deals and want to stick with their original Mobile network for good reason. Well for a start my Dad rarely uses the phone and probably still has lots of credit next month and doesn't need to top up for months.

Also that I think Orange over branded that phone mobile way too orangey.

Pulling hairout moments
Thanks to the open community there are lots of helpful tutorials in unlocking and flashing in various ways. I can see they practically almost perfected it with the combination of ClockworkMod Recovery Image and Rom Manager. I found various tutorials in many flavours all aimed at unlocking and debranding in different ways.

Both times I spent hours at being careful and going through loops on and off and eventually succeeding with different tutorials used for different stages.

In the end I found these steps the least probmatic and easiest. In these detailed steps I found that are certain builds of the phone require different steps. The steps help explain how to identifiy your phone build model.

After doing the first initial custom rom change, I have a small feeling that I should be able to do the more easier way of flashing the andriod rom.

The Stages Explained
There are five stages, unlocking, identify build model, root phone, install flash recovery, and install new custom rom.

Unlocking the phone network I followed chapter 'How to Unlock the ZTE Blade / Orange San Francisco'.

Indentify build model of the phone so you know what guides to follow I installed, 'Ask Mr Pigfish' from the 'Andriod Market' explained here The model I found was a 'GEN1'

Root phone, so your phone can do more super user (system commands) in the background. This is you can start flashing your phone.

Install flash recovery, installs a special image in the phone so you can reboot your phone in a special developer mode. So we can start flashing the phone rom.

install new custom rom, install the rom of choice that seems good at the time :)

Moving to another county!

Having traveled to work for over 9 months I knew I had to stop this. £200 a month for season ticket (which included unlimited bus travel in Reading). 1 hour journey there and hour back when finished work, too knackering and living over my means....

So thanks to some close friends and family saying the benefits I finally did it. You cannot believe how long it took mentally to convince myself it is the best thing for me to do, what a mind job that was. I was like, 'Yes I will do it, second thoughts maybe sometime later' and I was this for months!

I couldn't believe how busy I turned in doing this move and I still have to do my inventory check which I was meant to of done over a week ago (Hopefully I get it done tomorrow). Yup I picked a hell of a time to move too as I picked it during a really busy period at Websushi too yet enjoy it still anyways (cuz its my career and I enjoy developing anyway)

A little surprise url to my Facebook friends who will get first viewing and then later down the road I will display the surprise here :)

Now my next goal for this flat is think clever about conserving space and donating old stuff... Hamnes day sofa bed with 3 drawers (from ikea) is one of my things i need to help conserve space. Oh and a special tall thin cupboard with a few drawers and then I will be cooking .... Oh the bullet express!!!!....[click]

Another blog you crazy!?

Yes I decided to start A FRESH NEW BLOG! I'm crazy!!! well not totally.

After seeing various blogs I have found within my followers on my Twitter account, looking at tad more groovier and nicer looking. I thought it about time I did something about it.

At first I had this crazy idea of having a blog for each of my interests. Overtime I create 6 blogs. The more blogs I got, the more lazy I became in looking after the layout. I think I rather keep everything all in one place and just looking after one blog.

I feel new and fresh already :)

So stuff all my old blog address, they will stay in Internet limbo as I some of my old geeky articles that still help out.

Just remember this one ^^.

IPv6 Worried? Don't be just be prepared

Yesturday I recently attended:

IET Evening Lecture: The internet has run out, long live the internet!

thanks to a close {{friend}} of mine who pointed out to me, we both found it interesting and fun. Even got to see 'The Internet' box as seen in the, 'IT Crowd'. It was unbelieviable the amount of questions was pouring out at the end of the leacture. Lots of ressurance that everything will be fine and simple. Just a few pointers that I learnt....

Be Prepared
At least do the following to be ready.
  • Make sure your ISP is IPv6 ready, if not convince them to, else CHANGE ISP!
  • Buy a new Router equipment and make sure it has 'Dual IPv4 and IPv6' protocol support
  • You may need to verify your Firewall is setup correctly
Don't Panic

Cables?
You don't have to worry about cables, IPv6 runs on the same 'Ethernet' cables you already using.

What happened to IPv5?
That was just some silly experiment a long time ago.

Will it be Slow!?
Despite the addresses will be long and you will be doing more copying and pasting to ping address... Short answer. No.

Can I talk to IPv4 Addresses?

No. Don't even try, apparently it has been tried by encoding an IPv4 address inside of an IPv6 address, then decoded. Yet you can never get a response.

What about the IPv4?
From what the lecture said, we will never know. We cannot predict the future. Ideally we like to see the technology fade out.

Thanks to

I sheepishly forgot the speaker's name yet he did say he help make this.
